ABOUT US

We are a confraternity of religious Jews from all denominationswho aim to study, renew, and develop the contemplative practices of the Jewish-Sufi Movement known as “Medieval Egyptian Hasidism”.The Movement was led by R.Abraham HeHasid (d.1223), R. Abraham ben Ha Rambam(1186-1237), R. Obadya Maimuni(1228-1265) and R. David ben Joshua Maimuni (1335-1414). --------------------------------------------------------------------- They believed that certain contemplative practices of the biblical “Schools of the Prophets” had been lost to Judaism but had been preserved in Islamic-Sufism. They sought to restore those practices to Judaism. So do we. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We are aspiring “Sons of the Prophets”who trace our “path” to Elijah the Prophet and the hermits of Mount Carmel. --------------------------------------------------------------- Our Aim is to promote Khalwa/Hitbodedut ( silent and receptive contemplative prayer) performed in solitude or as a Jewish Sufi congregation. ------------------------------------------------------------------ We have a group inSafed that meets in the Artists Quarter every Wednesday afternoon for one hour of Dhikr meditation.
